What the weather here is
The granitic inner islands sit at 4°S, which is close enough to the equator that the Coriolis force is too weak to spin up a tropical cyclone — so Mahé has essentially never taken a direct hit, and the outer islands toward Aldabra at 9°S are a different story. The year is run by the monsoon reversal: the northwest monsoon from December brings the heavy rain, the southeast trades from May bring cooler, windier and drier weather. Mahé takes about 2,300 mm, and the granite peaks lift that to over 3,500 mm on their windward flanks. Seychelles is also where the Indian Ocean Dipole is most directly felt in sea surface temperature.
