What the weather here is

The eastern escarpment rises steeply out of the Indian Ocean directly into the trade wind, so the east coast at Maroantsetra takes over 3,000 mm while the southwest around Toliara, in the rain shadow of the same ridge, is spiny desert taking under 400 mm. Antananarivo on the central plateau at 1,280 m is mild and takes its rain from November to April. The island is hit by an average of three or four tropical cyclones a season — more landfalls than anywhere else in the basin — and the far south has been in a multi-year drought severe enough that the kere famine there was widely called the first driven primarily by climate.

Where the official forecast is

This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Madagascar comes from Direction Générale de la Météorologie. During a tropical cyclone the advisory that everything else follows is RSMC La Réunion’s, which is the WMO centre for the southwest Indian Ocean.

What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
