The numbers
What the weather here is
Freetown sits on a peninsula of forested mountains that rise 900 m straight out of the Atlantic directly into the monsoon flow, and it takes something over 3,000 mm a year for it — with July and August each capable of a metre. The dry season from December is the harmattan's, hazy and dusty enough to ground flights. The geography that makes the rain also makes the hazard: in August 2017 a rain-saturated slope on Sugar Loaf collapsed onto Regent and killed over a thousand people, which is the recurring risk anywhere this steep takes this much water.
Where the official forecast is
This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Sierra Leone comes from Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency.
What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
