What the weather here is
Eritrea is a staircase. The Red Sea coast at Massawa is one of the hottest places on the planet — over 40 °C for months, with almost no rain and what little there is falling in winter. Seventy kilometres inland and 2,300 m up, Asmara is 17 °C year-round, takes its rain from the June-to-September kiremt monsoon, and needs heating at night. Drop west into the Barka lowlands and it is hot and dry again. The Danakil in the southeast, below sea level, is the hottest-on-average inhabited region measured anywhere.
Where the official forecast is
This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Eritrea comes from Civil Aviation Authority — Meteorological Services.
What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
