What the weather here is

The kiremt — the main June-to-September rains on the Ethiopian highlands — is where about 85% of the Nile's water comes from, which makes this the single most consequential rainy season in Africa for anyone downstream in Sudan and Egypt. The highlands themselves are cool and temperate because they are high: Addis Ababa at 2,355 m holds 16 °C all year at 9°N, and the Bale and Simien massifs above 4,000 m get frost and occasional snow. The belg short rains in February and March matter to the lowlands, and their failure is what precedes most Ethiopian droughts. The Danakil at the other extreme is below sea level and effectively rainless.

Where the official forecast is

This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Ethiopia comes from EMI — Ethiopian Meteorological Institute.

What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
