Libreville

Gabon is 88% forest and sits on the equator, so the surprise is how pronounced its dry season is: from June to September Libreville is overcast, cool by equatorial standards and takes almost no rain at all, because the cold Benguela Current pushes far enough north to stabilise the lower atmosphere along this coast. Either side of that gap the totals are large — around 3,000 mm at Libreville for the year — and the interior plateau keeps raining more evenly. That cool-season stratus is the northern edge of the same mechanism that makes the Namib a desert 2,000 km further south.
