Luanda

The Benguela Current runs cold water up the entire Angolan coast, and the result is that Luanda — at 8°S, deep in the tropics — takes only about 320 mm a year, while Namibe further south is desert continuous with the Namib. Climb the escarpment inland and the picture inverts: the Bié Plateau at 1,700 m is cool, takes over 1,400 mm in a November-to-April season, and feeds the Cubango and Cuito rivers whose flood arrives in the Okavango Delta in Botswana months later. Cabinda, the exclave north of the river, is properly equatorial and wetter than anything in the main body of the country.
