What the weather here is
Zambians describe three seasons rather than two: a warm wet season from November, a cool dry season from May when Lusaka at 1,280 m can fall to 6 °C at night, and a hot dry season in October before the rains break. Annual totals run from 1,400 mm in the far north to under 700 mm in the Zambezi valley. Almost all of the country's electricity comes from Kariba, so a poor rainy season is a power crisis within months — the 2015–16 and 2023–24 El Niño droughts both put the lake near minimum operating level. Victoria Falls' flow varies by a factor of twenty across a single year.
