What the weather here is
Three quarters Sahara, and the quarter that is not is Sahel that has been drying for fifty years — the droughts of the 1970s and 1980s emptied the interior into Nouakchott, which has grown from a village to a million people on a sand plain barely above sea level. The coast is cool and foggy for the same reason Western Sahara's is, and the Banc d'Arguin upwelling that results is one of the richest fisheries in the world. Inland, Atar runs 45 °C in June and the harmattan blows dust out over the Atlantic for weeks.
