What the weather here is
A country laid out along the rainfall gradient: Bamako in the south takes 1,000 mm in a single June-to-September season, Mopti about half that, Timbuktu under 200 mm, and Taoudenni in the far north essentially none. The Niger River runs the wrong way through the middle of it and spreads into the Inner Niger Delta, a seasonal floodplain the size of Belgium whose extent each year is set by rain that fell in the Guinea highlands months earlier. Mali's storms are almost all organised: West African squall lines, travelling west at 15 m/s, delivering most of the annual total in a few dozen hours.
