Juba

Roughly half the water the White Nile carries into South Sudan never comes out the other side: it spreads into the Sudd, one of the largest wetlands on Earth, and evaporates. That makes the country's hydrology unusually decoupled from its own rainfall — Juba takes about 950 mm in a long April-to-November season, but the flooding that displaced hundreds of thousands from 2019 onward was driven by Lake Victoria's level, set by rain that fell in Uganda and Kenya. The northeast toward Renk is much drier and Sahelian; the southwest toward Yambio approaches equatorial.
