What the weather here is

Nigeria contains the entire West African rainfall gradient inside one country: Port Harcourt and the Niger Delta take over 2,400 mm in a season that barely closes, Abuja on the Jos Plateau takes 1,300 mm and is noticeably cooler for its 1,200 m, and Maiduguri in the northeast takes under 600 mm and sits in the Sahel with Lake Chad shrinking beside it. Lagos floods because it is a lagoon city at sea level taking 1,700 mm; the north floods because the Niger and Benue arrive together, as they did catastrophically in 2012 and again in 2022. NiMet's seasonal rainfall prediction is one of the most closely read documents in the country.

Where the official forecast is

This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Nigeria comes from NiMet — Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
