What the weather here is
Draw a line across Tanzania and the rainfall calendar changes: north of it — Arusha, Kilimanjaro, the coast, Lake Victoria — there are two seasons, the masika long rains and the vuli short rains; south of it there is one long wet season from November to April. Kilimanjaro at 5,895 m is the highest point in Africa and its summit ice has lost most of its extent since 1912, driven more by sublimation in dry air than by warming alone. Dar es Salaam is hot and humid with 1,100 mm; Dodoma inland is semi-arid with a third of that; and Zanzibar takes the northeast monsoon kaskazi and the southeast kusi in alternation, which is how the dhow trade ran.
Where the official forecast is
This site is not a warning service. The official forecast and every watch and warning for Tanzania comes from TMA — Tanzania Meteorological Authority. During a tropical cyclone the advisory that everything else follows is RSMC La Réunion’s, which is the WMO centre for the southwest Indian Ocean.
What is on this page is the raw observation — the METAR itself, from the aerodrome named above it — with nothing added and nothing forecast.
